North Suburban Evening Reporting Center (ERC)
The ERC is a partnership between The Link and Hennepin County meant to create opportunities and lend support to youth ages 14-18 in the north suburbs who have entered into the juvenile justice system. The North Suburban Evening Reporting Center (ERC) is part of Hennepin County’s Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative, which was created to provide a path away from detention, further court involvement and out-of-home placement.
The Link’s services are designed to build each youth’s assets while providing structured, positive year-round activities during after school hours and on Saturdays, when the most youth crimes occur. Youth participating in ERC programming will take part in groups and activities such as:
- Anger management and conflict resolution
- Alcohol and drug abuse prevention
- Court order compliance
- Computer literacy
- Employment and job skills
- Health and hygiene education
- Homework assistance/tutoring
- Life skills development
- Nutrition
- Off-site cultural and educational experiences
- Parent involvement and parenting skills
- Recreation
- Pregnancy prevention and STD/STI education
Hennepin County’s goal is that 80% of youth who complete ERC programming will not re-enter the juvenile justice system or be sent to and out-of-home placement within 6 months of program completion. With The Link’s history of meeting program goals for the past 20 years, we are confident that the ERC will be a success.
