Be@school

The high school drop-out rate in Minneapolis is 45.3%

The Be@school program promotes educational engagement to increase graduation rates for truant youth ages 12-17. The program provides Hennepin County youth with intensive one-on-one case management to identify and eliminate barriers to school attendance. Youth are referred to The Link once they have seven or more unexcused absences from school.  Case managers use a strength-based approach to work with them and their families to re-engage youth with their education as quickly as possible through individualized action plans and client driven goal setting.

The program offers:

  • One-on-one case management
  • Academic credit recovery
  • Court navigation assistance
  • Recreational/social activities
  • Assitance in resolving language and communication barriers
  • Job readiness skills
  • Resource referrals
  • Life skills groups
  • School enrollment

The program worked with over 400 youth last year, most of whom are older and have had unsuccessful interventions in the past. The program: helped 67% of parents engage in strategies to improve their child’s attendance, helped 61% of youth improve school attendance, and enrolled 80% of un-enrolled youth in school.
